Dylan Thomas was born in South Wales, Britain, on October 27, 1914, to a secondary school headmaster who was editor-in-chief of the school publication and published a number of poems when he was in high school.

Dylan Thomas, known as “Mad Dylan”, was born in Wales, England, to a very educated middle-class family, and he himself was born an urchin, and later became an alcoholic and smoker. He had an early premonition that he would not live long and claimed to create an “urgent Dylan”, a poet with a self-destructive passion. He was essentially a romantic. He published his first book of poems at the age of nineteen, which immediately attracted the attention of the poetry world, then moved to London, where he won the praise of many famous poets two years later with his second book of poems, and was even more remarkable with the publication of Death and Appearance in 1946. By this time he had not only easily entered the ranks of the great contemporary British poets, but also spawned the “New Revelation” school of poetry (also known as the “Apocalypse School”), which emulated him.

Dylan Thomas’s poetry revolves around the three major themes of life, desire and death; the poetic style is refined and passionate, and the rhythms are energetic but not rigorous; his dense imagery set up recklessly collides with each other and constrains each other, expressing the growing power of nature and the rhythm of human nature. Dylan Thomas’s poetry opens a new chapter in the history of English and American poetry.

Do not go gentle into that good night,

Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

老年应当在日暮时燃烧咆哮;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they因为他们的话没有迸发出闪电,他们

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,

Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
